Local Orcas Look Happy and Healthy

Southern resident orcas were spotted near Bainbridge Island on Friday and researchers say they look healthy and happy.

Last week, some of the orcas were even seen 'surfing' the wake of a large ship.

Scientists say Southern Resident Orcas have not ventured into inland waters as much as in past summers. Their return now is a valuable opportunity to see the orcas. According to the Center for Whale Research, right now there are 73 orca whales in the Southern Resident population.
